About the program

A grant built for the field.

The skilled trades run on people doing skilled work on-site — yet the technology that makes that work faster and more accurate often sits behind a cost barrier. The Digital Wearables Workforce Grant removes it, putting AI-assisted estimating into the hands of working technicians at no cost, for a full year. Funded by Smart Service ERP for the Trades.

Eligibility

Who the grant supports.

Open to for-profit field service businesses in the skilled trades, based in the U.S., whose technicians estimate or quote work on-site. Awards are made per technician, up to $10,000 per company.

To be eligible

  • A for-profit trades or field service business in the U.S.
  • Field technicians who estimate or quote work on-site
  • A technician count consistent with your revenue and service area
  • Agreement to share a brief quarterly impact summary

You're a strong fit if

  • Your technicians quote jobs in the field, away from the office
  • Faster, more accurate estimating would help your team
  • You're ready to put the tools to work across your crew
  • You can share how the grant made a difference

Applications requesting a larger field team may be asked to verify eligibility before an award is made.

What we look for

How applications are evaluated.

Every application is read individually. When awards are limited within a cycle, we weigh three things.

Fit

A genuine trades or field service business whose technicians would put SmartScope to use on real jobs.

Need

The grant meaningfully lowers a real barrier for your team — the tools would make a difference you'd feel.

Impact

A clear path for the grant to improve how your business estimates, wins work, and serves customers.

The award

What recipients receive.

A full year of SmartScope per approved technician — up to $10,000 in grant value per company.

A one-year license

Full SmartScope access for a twelve-month term — a $599 value per technician, awarded at no cost.

Simple activation

Recipients redeem a one-time code directly in the SmartScope app to activate their year of access.

AI in the field

Instant answers, faster estimates, and cited sources — the tools your techs reach for on every job.

Recipient commitments

What we ask in return.

Accepting a grant is simple, but carries two commitments that keep the program fair and let us measure its impact.

Accurate information

You confirm your technician count, revenue range, and service area are truthful. Grants may be revoked if information is materially misrepresented.

A quarterly impact summary

Each quarter you review and approve a short Grant Impact Snapshot — usage totals only, with no customer or job details, approved by you before anything is shared.

Frequently asked questions

Questions, answered.

Eligibility

Who is eligible to apply?+
Any for-profit field service or skilled-trades business based in the United States whose technicians estimate or quote work on-site — including HVAC, plumbing, window cleaning, pest control, electrical, and related trades. Grants are awarded per technician.
Do I need to be an existing SmartScope customer?+
No. The grant is open to both current SmartScope users and businesses new to the platform. Existing users can also apply directly from within the SmartScope app.
My trade isn't listed. Can I still apply?+
Yes. The named trades are examples. If you run a for-profit field service business whose technicians quote work on-site, you're welcome to apply and select "Other Skilled Trade."
How many technicians can I request?+
One grant per active field technician, up to a maximum of $10,000 in grant value per company — about 16 technician licenses. Your requested count should be consistent with your annual revenue and service area.

The award

What does the grant provide?+
Each approved technician receives a full one-year SmartScope license — a $599 value — awarded at no cost. That's twelve months of AI-assisted estimating, instant answers, and cited sources in the field.
Is there a limit on how much one company can receive?+
Yes. Each company may receive up to $10,000 in grant value — roughly 16 one-year technician licenses. In total, the program awards $2,500,000 in grants across the program year.
What happens at the end of the grant year?+
SmartScope is a subscription, so at the end of the twelve-month term it continues at standard pricing unless cancelled — the same as any App Store subscription. You're notified before renewal and can cancel anytime.
How do technicians activate their grant?+
Approved businesses receive a unique, one-time redemption code for each technician. Each technician enters their code in the SmartScope app to unlock their year of access.

Applying

How do I apply?+
Complete the application on workforcegrant.com with your business details and requested technician count, and agree to the grant terms. There's no lengthy proposal to write.
Is there a deadline?+
The program runs from August 15, 2026 through August 15, 2027. Applications are accepted throughout and reviewed in monthly cycles, so earlier applications are reviewed sooner.
Will every eligible applicant receive a grant?+
The program has a fixed number of awards. We aim to fund as many qualified technicians as possible, but awards are limited and not guaranteed.
Can I reapply if I'm not selected?+
Yes. If awards remain available in a later cycle, you're welcome to reapply.

After you're approved

What is the Grant Impact Snapshot?+
A brief, quarterly summary of how the grant is being used — usage totals such as estimates created and hours saved. Recipients agree to share it as a condition of the grant; it's how we measure the program's impact.
What information is shared, and when?+
Only app usage totals, which you review and approve each quarter before anything is shared. Individual customer or job details are never included.
Who is behind the program?+
The Digital Wearables Workforce Grant is a program of Smart Service ERP for the Trades.

Applications are open.
